Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn college credit tuition-free while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college courses. With traditional PSEO, these courses are generally offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online.

Most PSEO courses are only open to high school students during their 11th- and 12th-grade year, with each participating college and university setting their own requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses and programs. Students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis. Students must meet the PSEO eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits outlined in the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act and described in the PSEO Reference Guide (below).

The tuition, fees, and required textbooks are at no cost to students. Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 12D.09. If a school district determines a pupil is not on track to graduate, she/he may continue to participate in PSEO. Funds are available to help pay transportation expenses for qualifying students to participate in PSEO courses on college campuses. Please see your school counselor for more information regarding travel expenses. Students must notify their school by May 30th if they want to participate in PSEO for the following school year. PLEASE NOTE: Expectations in these classes are high. Grades earned by students in these classes become part of their permanent college academic record. Students who qualify to take these classes must be able to organize and manage their time, balance homework with extra-curricular involvement and work, and initiate communication regularly with their teachers concerning make-up work. Because this is a college course, there will be higher expectations in academics and accountability for students that may supersede rules and expectations listed in the high school student handbook. Another responsibility for students in a college-level course is to address any concerns related to grades or performance in the classroom. Please carefully consider this before registering for these classes either at the high school or at the college.
