The State of MN has a teleconference variance in effect until August 31st, 2023.  This variance allows students to complete the classroom portion of driver education through distance learning from an approved public or private driving school.  A list of private driving schools may be found at the link above. Some of the schools may offer distance learning.

This does not mean that an "online" program is approved for non-homeschool students.  If a student wants to take the classroom portion virtually, it must be from a public school program or a private program from the approved list. Only students who are working toward a homeschool diploma may take an online driver education course.

Once this variance expires on August 31, 2023, students will no longer be allowed to take the classroom portion of driver education through distance learning.
